In partnership with important international and national institutions, the national cement industry launched, in 2019, in a pioneering way in Brazil, the largest and most ambitious decarbonization project in an industrial sector in the country.
Entitled Cement Technological Roadmap, the initiative mapped out alternatives for the sector to reduce its carbon intensity by more than 30%, one of the lowest in the world, by 2050.
After almost 5 years, the sector is once again anticipating and, in partnership with the GCCA, launches the basic guidelines to achieve neutrality in its emissions by 2050.
To achieve this trajectory update to Net Zero, it is necessary to expand the scope by considering the product's life cycle throughout its value chain.
This Roadmap incorporates decarbonization potentials of (i) clinker, (ii) cement, (iii) concrete, (iv) construction, (v) recarbonation, (vi) electrification and (vii) removals/compensations.
Achieving it will require broad participation and cooperation from construction agents, development agencies, governments, and academia.
